On Wednesday the 7th of March, I found myself watching Oprah. For once on this show there was something interesting to watch. Mr Al Gore was on and was promoting/discussing his film 'An Inconvient Truth'. I was happy to see that it wasn't going to be another episode about fat people losing weight or Oprah handing out freebies, and for once it actually being something worth watching.
After seeing 'An inconvient truth' already, I found the show was pretty much just replaying parts of the documentry. I was still happy to watch it, and see if Al Gore maybe had some information about the impact of Global Warming.
After watching the show for 10 mintues, I was irritated, not with Al Gore, but with Oprah. Her repetative questions and sheer stupidity. I understand that she knows the seriousness (if thats a word) of the issue, but just focussing on the poor polar bears is not the full impact that global warming will have. She wasn't concerned that maybe most of the east and west coasts of her country would end up under water.
She also made me feel that global warming was a new fashion that has hit the stores. That it wasn't a serious problem that the world is facing and not just the Americans are facing, everyone on the planet.
I liked the doco. It has made me open my eyes and realise that if I dont start respecting my home that it wont be a nice place to live. Everyone doing a little bit helps. I have researched cleaning products that don't harm the environment and shampoo's and conditioners, body washers, toothpastes. I have changed my light bolbs, I turn everything off at the power point after using it, I put the bucket in the shower, and from doing so I have saved the ferns that are out the front of my house. I recycle like there is no tomorrow. I even go for walk and enjoy the fresh air and the birds flying by.
I think sometimes people forget about the little things around them that can be so important. Just taking 5-10 mintues of my day to just sit outside in my court yard watching nature do what it does makes the day for me.
thats enough rambling from me.
bye for now.
